Canvas Chat: Meet Katie Garcia

Katie Garcia and her daughter, Guinevere
This week I had a chance to interview a photographer, Katie Garcia of Katie Garcia Photography. She is a wonderfully talented photographer that has taken many beautiful photos that inspire and capture the imagination. Katie's work also captures beautiful moments and memories.  I own one of her prints myself from her trip to Japan. The print hangs in my bedroom, it's called "Ancient Gardens." I have loved her work since I first saw the piece "Ancient Gardens" a few years back.

Mermaids and the Beach

Recently, I decided to dust off my paintbrushes. Watercolor is often my weapon of choice. There's something about the way you can make shadows and light with it that I absolutely adore. This piece started late one night after studying the female figure. I started sketching working up my concept.

Typically when I paint I rush the piece, not this time the image shown here to the left is only part of one session of painting. Previous to this I did a quick work up of a painting using watercolor pencils. I love mermaids and have always found them so very fascinating.

Arrgh! Pirate Attack: Let's Decoupage a Bangle

This week's project focuses on Decoupage. I had a lot of fun making this. It's pirate themed by choice of course. The finished piece even includes a photo of me and my husband from my 23rd birthday. This project is fun and easy. Another great part of it is how inexpensive it is. I bought my bangles for this project however you can up cycle an old bangle and bring it new life with this. They also make great gifts for birthdays and the holidays. To make this project check out my tutorial here:

Turtles and Zombie Roses

Recently, I received a commission for a very special necklace. I really enjoyed this commission, because it was for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle necklace. Each turtle is sculpted from polymer clay and measures 1 inch. The necklace is 18 inches with green accent beads. I always enjoy when I get to work on a Geekery project. I'm still trying to finish my series on Avatar: The Last Airbender, element necklaces. I'm on the last element in the set, air. I am still dreaming up ideas for it.

Roses are Red.......
Dead zombie flesh is green...
