Needles and Yarn : An Artist's Trip into the Tatting World

It all began as I sat at my desk skimming my news feed on Facebook, Craftovision, made post about Totusmel's Barefoot Sandals pattern. I was so intrigued I clicked the link and went down the rabbit hole. Suddenly I found myself upside down. Words and names likes rings and Josephine chains and amazing images of her work. I was awestruck. Thus began my needle tatting journey.

I started by finding tools, Tatting needles were indeed tricky to find. Then there's yarn of course! I found my tatting needles while on vacation in Mississippi, tucked away in Hobby Lobby. Yarn was fun to shop for I found shop on Etsy called PomPomPurses and the Kimberly happened to be selling Large collection of Vintage Threads. Those however I accidentally shipped to my mom's house and had to wait till after my trip to retrieve them.

So armed only with needles and Black crochet cotton, my sister I decided to tackle the Flower pendant, tutorial by Totusmel. Pain staking hours passed as I worked into the night and finally produced something resembling the desired pattern.
After some sleep the next day I started again, I was determined to make this happen! So here are two of my best flowers thus far! After completing flowers, I had to find another pattern.

Lucky for me and everyone else Totusmel has quite a few! The second pattern was "The Fluerette necklace", this one I did in two parts, tatting the fluerette by itself to learn the pattern and get feel for it, then the entire necklace. So far I really like needle tatting, its something new and untouched, and applications are so wide. I am certainly not making my grandmother's doilies. I plan completing and mastering all of her Tatting Tutorials one by one this should be an epic quest. If you'd like to check Totusmel's awesome works she's listed in the Inspiring Artists section of my blog.

I'm going to keep tatting it is really challenging and hopefully learn to incorporate it in my other works. I've got lot's of good ideas brewing up in my head. In other exciting news My garden is doing well, My herbs and plants are growing so well. I picked up purple bamboo silk yarn today for an attempt at Totusmel's Scarf pattern. I also going to put together a piece on fairy bottle earrings. I really hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend. Till Next Time Happy Crafting!

Feathers and Roses

So I've been away for several months, but fear not I'm finally back and ready to roll. So much has happened in the past couple of months, I moved in with my in laws. Its taken quite a bit of time to get settled and adjusted. During the past few months I took time to get my life a bit in order, though its still a wonderful chaotic mess, I started a garden, took up exercising, learned to make sushi and pasta from scratch. Let my muse take a nice long hiatus so she could get some rest and my creative functions would return to me revived. I also had the chance to sculpt some new roses I started sculpting plumeria, frangi pani flowers. They are still a work in progress.

Other projects I have been experimenting with are earrings and needle tatting. For years I never wore earrings. Now I'm suddenly in love with them. I added a few new pairs to my Etsy shop. They were fun to make, I hope to add more fun and unique styles with really bright colors. I also getting into added small elements from sculpting to my earrings as well. The earrings pictured above are an example. I sculpted the mini roses and attached them to the brass settings. I named those "The Queen's White Roses" after the White Queen in "Alice Wonderland." These feather earrings are just so much fun to wear. I like how light they feel when you wear them. Also the color possibilities are endless I learned to make from Craftovision (just click on Craftovsion for a link to the tutorial.) Corrine's Tutorial is really easy to follow and is fun. The Craftovison website is a great community of crafter's who share work and their tutorials. I find as great place to share ideas and read up on what others in the DIY community are up too. These earrings are my own version of the what Corine did.

Well that's all for now! My next post will be about an update on my needle tatting. Till next time Happy Crafting

Playing Catch Up

Where have I been since September? Well after the Seafood Jamboree, I went back home to Florida, i took time from sculpting and I enjoyed the holidays. Halloween was amazing, I love carving pumpkins It snowed in Atlanta on Christmas that was wonderful. This year I moved across the river, big change from Mandarin.

Now to the good stuff! Crafting projects I made soup, before anyone gets all picky about cold process of melt and pour. I like trying new projects, this was one of these projects that was fun and easy. Something really great for novice. I just wanted to try it out. Melt and pour works really easy, you melt the soapbase, made of vegetable glycerin. Then you add the fragrance and oils. also a color of you choosing. Pour into mold , and let it set. Very easy!

Making Preparations!

I'm writing you from my lovely hometown of Hattiesburg, in South Mississippi. I'm making preparations for the Seafood Jamboree at Sacred Heart. I had a booth in the Spring at the Rock n' Roux here and I had a Blast. I'm putting the final touches on the last few masks. I'm also having a blast with my niece Ava. My sister has even helped complete a mask for the show. I'm excited, the show is this Saturday on my birthday! Should be great!

These are some photos from the Spring Show!

Lot's of Love!
